Story:
Before: This family loved their home but grew tired of the hard-to-access backyard, lack of outdoor living space, and absence of garage or mudroom.
After: A tuck under garage with a rooftop deck addition brings function and style to a beloved classic home.
Highlights:
- The hill on the side of the home was excavated to make room for the new garage and driveway.
- Siding was selected to match with the homes existing siding. Exterior fascia and trim details were recreated for a seamless transition between old and new.
- Garage doors were chosen to resemble the existing windows and match the stairs, posts and rails of the new deck.
- Maintenance-free decking material was used for ease of care and cleaning.
- A kitchen window was removed and replaced with an exterior door for easy access to the deck.
- A wire deck railing adds a modern twist to the design and has minimal impact on sight lines.
- The main staircase allows for access to the sidewalk from the deck. Another set of stairs was added for access from the deck to the backyard.
- A door between the garage and basement creates easy access to the home, and a simple mudroom was constructed to store the family’s winter coats and boots.
