Story:
Before: Empty nesters love their traditional Tudor Revival home but grew tired of their outdated and dysfunctional kitchen.
After:
This inviting space blends Tudor Revival and French Country design elements for an open kitchen with plenty of storage, prep space, and a cozy breakfast nook.
Highlights:
- Removed the existing wall between the kitchen and breakfast room to create a larger, brighter space
- Removed the existing broom closet for more storage and countertop space around the range
- Kept the existing sink base, cabinetry to the right of the sink, and island
- Installed a larger, 36” gas range and created a focal point by including a decorative hood
- Relocated the range to allow countertop space on each side of appliance
- Installed custom birch cabinetry to match the existing
- Installed glass cabinet doors with mullions to match the original window
- Built a custom banquette that provided casual seating while concealing the radiator
- Installed marble-inspired porcelain slab backsplash and authentic soapstone countertops for a classic feel
- Installed herringbone birch floors to bridge the competing design aesthetics and help the room feel cohesive
- Installed a vintage French Country chandelier in the breakfast nook
