Dutch Colonial Second-Floor Addition

Story:

Before: A growing family needed an additional bedroom, a larger primary bedroom, increased storage, and a functional bathroom.

After: An addition, new dormer, and reconfiguration of space on the existing second-floor created 3 bedrooms and one bathroom all on one level.

Highlights:

  • A second-floor addition on the back of the home allowed for the addition of a primary bedroom with walk-in closet
  • The addition was built on top of the existing kitchen and seamlessly blends into the original architecture
  • A new crawl space with proper footings was added beneath the existing kitchen to provide necessary support for the second-floor addition
  • A dormer was installed on the side of the home to create an additional bedroom
  • The existing bathroom along with a small remaining bedroom were removed and reconfigured to add a hallway with built-in storage, an updated bathroom, and a walk-in closet
  • A linen cabinet was built into the hallway wall to resemble original built-ins often present in this era of architecture
  • New hardwood floors were laced in with the existing hardwood floors to carry the original design element throughout the new spaces
  • The new bathroom consists of a tub/shower, larger vanity, and linen cabinet – thereby increasing the family’s amount of storage for towels and toiletries
  • New shingles were installed on the entire home to blend the addition and create a more pleasing aesthetic
